This month we are launching the About my Brain Institute, and we would like to take this opportunity to share with you some of the work that is underway. Having been on this journey since 2009, we have seen significant growth in people’s interest towards learning more about their brains and the field of neuroscience.

Brain Science Trend Updates

Following on this 'brain science' trend, new and important initiatives have begun to emerge around the world – with the most recent being President Obama’s $100 million dollar funding of the Brain-Mapping Project.

Business

In the business and marketing world, 2010 saw the establishment of the International Neuromarketing Science & Business Association (NMSBA); and business schools around the globe have commenced launching ‘Neuro Suite’ Executive Education Programs for the corporate market.

Education

Many professionals are increasingly willing to take on further study, even if they come from a non-scientific background, and this has resulted in a variety of Neuroscience-based postgraduate and masters degree courses being offered, amongst them - organisations such as the Neuroleadership Institute.

In America, Hollywood celebrity Goldie Hawn’s 'MindUp' Program, for primary schools, has been embraced by teachers as they are now able to learn and teach their students the importance of understanding the brain, reducing stress and improving concentration.

The current trend has also prompted significant growth in the number of groups, across a variety of disciplines, working to create brain-centered programs, and we believe this will continue well into the future.

Technology & Gaming

Technological advancement has empowered many new start-ups to develop an array of ‘neuro’ devices with diverse applications; such is the case of Emotiv, NeuroSky & Interaxon — companies that are focused on developing brain-computer interface technologies.

We have also seen virtual summits organised, and compelling research published by think tanks such as Sharp Brains; as well as online gaming to help improve memory and other cognitive functions (e.g. Lumosity and MyBrainSolutions).

Our Contribution

Creating the BrainArt Project has been a rewarding and fulfilling experience. We have witnessed artists and the wider community manifesting an enormous amount of interest around the topic of 'brain science' and how they can use this newly acquired knowledge to improve their brain performance.

With two successful international competitions and exhibitions, we are proud to say that our intention to make neuroscience available to everyone is being accomplished.

On the personal front — having had our brains scanned and exploring how we can best optimise its potential, we have been motivated to meet and collaborate with other like-minded people across the globe; and we feel that our work has just begun!

Conducting research, workshops and conferences in the corporate world has reaffirmed our belief that everyone, and we really mean everyone, can benefit from learning more about their brain in order to be more effective, feel more empowered and be happier in both work and personal life.

The result of this journey was our decision to create the About my Brain Institute.

Our vision is to democratise leadership and neuroscience — by encouraging curiosity and offering unique learning experiences around themes such as: self leadership, brain performance, collaboration, innovation and agility.

Some really exciting releases will be announced over the upcoming months, including: the launch of the i4 Neuroleader Assessment Tool and a set of cutting-edge and invigorating i4 Certification Programs.

Looking forward to our ‘neurons firing together'!
